Even with Cancer & Tumors, I Choose to Live On Purpose

Living Intentionally with Multiple Myeloma and an Unshakable Spirit.
Brain Tumor
It all began with what I thought was a simple visit to the walk-in clinic — I was there to get checked for COVID, nothing more. But during the exam, the doctor noticed something unusual and recommended a CT scan. That scan revealed something I never expected: a tumor behind my eye. What started as a routine check-up quickly turned into the beginning of a life-changing journey.
Blood Cancer
After my surgery, the tumor was sent off for testing. Not long after, my doctor called with news that would change everything. He told me I needed to go to oncology — that same day. Then came the words I’ll never forget: “You have Multiple Myeloma.” Just like that, my world shifted.
Treatment
I met with my oncologist that very day. That’s when I learned what treatment would look like moving forward. I’d be starting with two injections in my stomach — one called Bortezomib (Velcade) and the other Daratumumab (Darzalex). On top of that, I’d be taking an oral medication called Lenalidomide (Revlimid) for 21 days straight, followed by a 7-day break. It was a lot to take in, but it was the beginning of my fight.

Thriving with Purpose: My Life Beyond Tumors and Multiple Myeloma

How Did I Get Cancer?

My very first question was: How in the world did I end up with an incurable blood cancer? Multiple Myeloma? Isn’t that something people in their 70s or 80s get? I’m still in my 40s — active, working, living life. It didn’t make sense. I felt too young, too healthy, too full of life for a diagnosis like this. But cancer doesn’t care about age, plans, or timing — it just shows up, uninvited, and changes everything.

What Do I Do Now?

So… what now? Do I start eating a cleaner, more specific diet? Should I be exercising more, looking into supplements, or both? Do I need to start thinking about things like a will or power of attorney paperwork? My mind was spinning with questions. Most of all, I kept wondering: How can I support my body and help the chemo do its job behind the scenes? I wasn’t just thinking about survival — I was thinking about how to live smart, live well, and stay one step ahead.

Latest From My Blog

Hi, I’m Jen, and this is my space — not just to share my diagnosis, but to share my life. I’ve been diagnosed with multiple tumors and an incurable blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. Those words are heavy, but they don’t define me. I’m still here, still breathing, still finding joy in the little things. This blog is where I write with honesty, humor, and heart about what it means to live intentionally — even when your body feels like it’s working against you. If you’re walking a hard road, I hope you’ll find some light here. We’re in this together.
